Product Description
The Numark Total Control DJ Software controller is the missing link for software DJs.A tabletop controller for DJs who yearn for the control they left behind when they switched from traditional mixers to the multi-processing power of laptop DJing. This fully class-compliant USB MIDI device is the ultimate for any performing computer DJ.Total Control's 31 buttons, 20 knobs and 5 faders send MIDI data from the controller to your DJ software of choice, making the inconvenience of mouse or glide-pad software control a thing of the past. No assignment of software parameters for the Total Control is necessary - simply connect the controller to a computer with a USB cable, enable it on the computer's 'config' menu, and watch the virtual controls respond to Total Control's actions. The Total Control comes packaged with Numark's Cue LE and Native Instruments' Traktor LE software, with pre-mapped controls and overlay 'skins' for both applications.

Pros
It is cheap as it provides mixer with crossfaders and turntable all in one for the price of SGD 524 which most DJ set will be much more. It is powered by USB and lights to indicate in the dark. With faders, knobs and jog wheels enough for basic scratching and mixing, it is pretty neat as a software controller.

Cons
It uses jog wheel, the feel of scratching is weird compare to a vinyl is different as vinyl moves and stop when press, jog wheel does not. You must buy the software for a full function usage. On 1 CUE can be used on the controller. The button indicator's lamination comes out easily when usage.

Overall I can say, cheap goods have it limitation no matter how good it is.

4 out of 5 stars What you need to know...   July 20, 2010

From the day i got it I've been excited with the Nuemark total control. It's mostly for ppl first getting into either DJ'in or to do simple mixes... the device has quick access control for loops, effects, samples, scratching, and more... its best to not scratch on it cuz it doesn't provide the best results but still usable.. The total Control has a sync button soo u dont have to stress too much about bpm's being off by a little bit. Its a load of fun to play with as u grasp the hang of mixing music and i would recommend it.

tha few flaws that i had was computer freezing... and mine didnt come with a power adapter. and i haven't seem o find a way to preview a song on the headphones before playing yet... =/

over all enjoy the product!! very much and use it quite often =)

I'M NOT A PRO, JUST DJ'ING FOR FUN, AND FOR FRIENDS' PARTIES, BUT I FIND THIS CONTROLLER VERY GOOD FOR THE PRICE, I USE VDJ, AND THIS DEVICE MADE IT EASIER FOR ME TO DO MY THING, IT'S MISSING SOME FEATURES, BUT IT'S GOOD FOR THE PRICE.

2 out of 5 stars Nice idea, bad softeware quality, horrible customer support   March 7, 2009

I use Ableton Live 7 on my PC to make music, and was ready to give djing a try. I was stoked to be able to get a "complete dj" setup for relatively cheap from Guitar Center. When I opened the box, the first thing I noticed was that it was missing the usb cable for the device... so I had to use a spare midi controller cable.

Next I installed Cue LE 5. After entering the activation code and seeing the device being installed in windows (the hardware ready to use balloon on bottom right) I clicked on the Cue LE 5 icon and a message popped up stating: "The controller has not been detected. Please plug in the controller and start Cue again."

I decided I didnt want the hassle and installed the other dj software, Traktor LE 3. The device worked fine, with the exception of some sensitivity issues with pitch control. And I discovered this djing thing was fun! However the Traktor LE software is a bit crippled, so I decided I wanted to try to use the Cue LE 5 software for the looping function (trakor le limits you to just a four beat loop)

But I couldn't get Cue to detect the total control. Searching the virtualdj.com forum, I found many other users having the same problem.
Just google this; "The controller has not been detected". Please plug in the controller and start Cue again

The only help out there was from other frustrated users. Some suggested firmware updates (Numark removed the download link from their site but left update instructions...? turns out this would have broken the Total Control). Some discussed changing IRQ settings(?). Some discussed Cue software updates. But absolutely no official help or troubleshooting instructions from Numark or virtualdj. Nothing helped. Finally I emailed Numark tech support, who wrote back to call. After a combined hour on hold, I spoke with a tech support rep who explained that Numark ships Cue LE 5 with a couple other controllers besides the Total Control. As it turns out, the activation number on the back of the Cue LE CD is actually specific to each device, effectively telling the Cue LE software what device to expect given the entered activation number. So when Numark includes the wrong activation code for your device and software along with your controller, it wont work because its looking for a different controller. (I think they could be more clear with the error message)

I relayed this information to other users on virtualdj.com, since I would have liked to have known the cause of this issue before my hours of troubleshooting and web searching. And the post was removed. Twice! That has been the most frustrating part of this whole experience. That and the fact that the service rep has yet to email me the correct activation code for the product I purchased...

I don't do much reviewing. I'm honestly too lazy. But the poor quality control, lack of online help, horrible support, and CENSORSHIP(!?) for revealing those short comings has motivated me to speak up. Hopefully Numark and virtualdj clean up their act. But for now buy something else that works.
